'I VAPE AND I VOTE': HOW WILL VAPING INDUSTRY AFFECT TRUMP'S ELECTION OUTCOME IN 2020
With the popularity of e-cigarettes and other vape goods reaching an all-time high in 2019, people who use these products are beginning to make up a sizable portion of the voting population in the United States.
When it comes to the forthcoming election, their voices count. Policies that affect their wants and needs will influence their choices.
You're not alone in wondering how the "I Vape, I Vote" campaign could affect the upcoming election. Here are some key aspects of the movement that might influence voters in the United States who vape.
THE BAN ON FLAVORED E-LIQUID
Was this the first of many dominoes to fall?
In September of 2019, US President Donald Trump declared his support for a ban on flavoured e-liquids, causing outrage within the vaping community. This support appeared to be mainly baseless, which offended and perplexed many across the country.
Consumers were outraged when states steadily implemented prohibitions that included both nicotine and THC cartridges (sometimes flavoured or unflavored). By cosigning the prohibition, the president alienated two groups of prospective voters. Some of these voters have already voted for him.
Later that year, in November, President Trump changed his mind about the ban.
Despite the fact that he was meant to make the ultimate decision on the flavoured e-liquid prohibition, he backed down, possibly as a result of the backlash from the "I Vape, I Vote" mob.
However, he was still exploring additional controversial measures to further control the use of vapes and e-liquids by legal adult customers, so backing off didn't assist his situation.
A brief and limited ban was really implemented in January of 2020. While there are some goods that are prohibited, it is not an all-encompassing prohibition. This affects both business owners and customers, yet it nevertheless allows the entire sector to develop and prosper. This cautious stance suggests that the Trump administration views vapers, vape company owners, and the millions of people engaged in the vaping sector as a significant voting bloc.
THE NEW AGE LIMIT
Trump has backtracked on his call for a ban on flavoured e-liquids. He did so, however, with a request for another possible modification to existing regulations.
Donald Trump signed a budget bill that would raise the federal tobacco purchase age from 18 to 21 years old. This will commence in the summer of 2020 across the country and will include e-cigarettes.
Vapers who were previously legal adults but were under the age of 21 may object to the change in age. Given the timing, this was most certainly a terrible decision on the president's behalf, who may not have realised he was alienating a sizable portion of the electorate (or future voters).
Adults between the ages of 18 and 21 who were previously allowed to lawfully participate in anything that may have helped them quit smoking are now no longer permitted to do so.
But how significant was this blunder? What are the characteristics of vaping voters, and are any of them part of Donald Trump's support base to begin with? You could be pleasantly surprised.
WHAT KIND OF VOTERS ARE VAPERS?
While the media attempts to portray the average vape user as someone who is uninterested in politics, this is simply not the case.
People who vape, on the other hand, care a lot about the things that matter to them.
They come from various areas of life and hold a wide range of political beliefs and viewpoints. It's risky to paint them all with the same brush, especially during an election year.
Some of the voters are traditional "small government" supporters who want as few limitations as possible imposed on them. Does this sound like a typical Trump supporter? It most likely should.
These folks want to know that they can receive the things they need on a regular basis without having to go through any red tape. When a prohibition is imposed, things get more complex. The government is making judgments for them on a commodity that they should have been permitted to consume lawfully since they were eighteen years old in some way or another.
This federal overreach might be a major blunder for the Trump administration. His supporters do not want the government to interfere with their lives.
Business owners make up a portion of the electorate. They're the owners of stores that sell these drinks, and they now have to figure out how to stay afloat in the face of the prohibition (and potential future restrictions). Is this the end of the prohibition, or will additional items be affected?). A single occurrence like this might cause some people to lose their whole livelihood.
When running for re-election, alienating small business owners is not a good look. Small companies are the lifeblood of the United States.
Some voters are more conventional. Trump's support was already dwindling before the ban, and it will dwindle much more now. Many of them are young and concerned about the future of politics, yet they are already involved in politics. The tobacco product prohibition for those under the age of 18 has already alienated young voters. Is there anyone left?
ARE YOU A PART OF I VAPE I VOTE?
Many vapers are single-issue voters, or at the very least, this is an issue that has a significant effect on where they vote. They will not vote against their own interests, and they want politicians to pay attention to them.
Trump's recent moves might have a significant influence on his reelection campaign, and anyone who opposes him who offers answers that please vape users could be in jeopardy.
"I Vape, I Vote" appeared to induce a temporary reversal of the ban, but would it have a longer-term impact? We'll have to wait and see.
